James River Run 5K: Reedy to Belle Isle and back

The first James River Run 5K is a fundraiser 5K run/walk through the heart of the James River Park at Reedy Creek & Belle Isle. Proceeds of this event will be used to help Greg Hawkins, former director of the VCU Outdoor Adveture program who was diagnosed with lung cancer, with medical expenses and start funds to install a water fountain at the Reedy Creek access.Event Details:

The 1st annual James River Run will be held at The Reedy Creek Meadow at 4001 Riverside Drive. The course will wind through single track trails next to the James before taking runners over to Belle Isle and eventually back to the meadow via Buttermilk Trail. Online registration is $25 and will be open until November 30th. In person registration will also be available on race day for $30.

All proceeds from this event will go to Greg Hawkins and to the James River Park.

Greg Hawkins has been an active member for the outdoor community for over 20 years. As director of the VCU Outdoor Adventure Program for 13 years, Greg was instrumental in getting countless students involved in outdoor trips as leaders, participants, and volunteers. Two years ago Greg left VCU to pursue his dream of working at the Boise State Outdoor Program in Idaho. Recently Greg has been diagnosed with lung cancer. In order to help Greg defray medical expenses and thank him for his leadership, the RVA community has organized several fundraisers.

8:00 – 9:00 Registration / Check In
9:15 – Race Begins
11:00 – Awards
12:00 – Group paddle on the Lower James (Meet at 14th Street Takeout)
5:00 – RETRO Movie night at The Camel with a silent auction for Greg
