Experience the only Class IV white water rapids in an urban setting in the country! You'll see why Outside Magazine named Richmond the Best River Town in the U.S. We start just above downtown in the beautiful urban forest of the James River Park System. Then we’ll turn the corner at Belle Isle to see the Richmond skyline laid out in front of us…and it’s time to conquer the Class III-IV Lower section of the mighty James River through downtown!
We’ll stop at the halfway point to re-hydrate while taking in the urban whitewater views. There will be plenty of time for swimming and staying cool before we takeout at the bottom of historic Shockoe Slip, having run the best (and biggest) rapids in downtown Richmond! Then it’s back to the Riverside Outfitters shop for a beverage and some front porch sittin' and war stories with your guides.
**Customers and staff are required to wear masks at all times indoors and whenever they are within 6′ of another person outdoors that they are not cohabitating with regardless of vaccination status until further notice. That includes while on our property, in the shuttle vehicle, and while walking through the park to/from the river. The exception to this rule is that customers and staff will not wear masks while on the river. Your guide will safely store your party’s masks once you access the river… they will then return the masks to you at the takeout to be worn on the shuttle ride back to the shop and on property**
*It is important to note that your party members may be in a raft with members of other parties
*We continue to monitor staff health including mandatory touch-less temperature checks for all staff members each morning
*We continue to utilize an outdoor check-in desk and customer seating areas so as to limit the amount of time spent indoors to the use of the restroom
*We continue to disinfect gear and equipment (vans, etc.) between uses
*Hand sanitizing and washing stations abound
* Each member of your party must be at least 10 years old, at least 4'6" tall, and at least 90 lbs. In the event we question whether a customer meets these requirements, we may need to ensure their ability to sit properly in a raft and fit into our PFD (life jacket). If they do not, they will not be able to go on this trip
* If you don't see dates/times available, please feel free to call the shop at 804-560-0068 during business hours
* In the event we cannot secure a guide for your trip (higher potential for bookings made within 48 hours of the trip), we will contact you asap to give you the option of rescheduling or receiving a refund

“My mother in law and some family friends are always looking for our next adventure. RO was the only team who worked my family in on a holiday weekend. The Lower James rafting trip was 100% worth it. It was all of our 1st time rafting. We hit the James with our guide, Arqam, aka guide of the century. We felt very safe and comfy under his direction. He was extremely patient with us. I’m tempted to go back tomorrow with some of my friends. Thanks for a great time! .”
“Took 40 people from work on a company outing. The staff, facilities, equipment, and rafting were all excellent. The guides were all top notch and added tour guide talks on historic and natural aspects of the James river as well as hitting the rapids. My group had an great time and would definitely recommend this for any group outings”
