Lower River Rafting

Experience the only Class III-IV white water rapids in a major U.S. city! You'll see why Outside Magazine named Richmond its "Best River Town." We start just outside of downtown in the beautiful urban forest of the James River Park System. Then we’ll turn the corner at Belle Isle to see the Richmond skyline laid out in front of us…and it’s time to conquer the Class III-IV Lower section of the mighty James River through downtown!
We’ll stop at the halfway point to re-hydrate and grab a snack while taking in the urban whitewater views. There will be plenty of time for swimming and staying cool before we takeout at the bottom of historic Shockoe Slip, having run the best (and biggest) rapids in downtown Richmond! At that point we'll be back at the Riverside Outfitters shop for a beverage and some front porch sittin'...no better place to relax and share war stories with your guide.

*Professional photos of your trip will available for download at riversideoutfitters.smugmug.com. Smile!!

*Minimum trip size is 4 people but we combine parties to meet that minimum if needed. If the minimum can't be met we'll reschedule or refund

*For Guided Raft Trips use Google maps to find our downtown raft shop in the "Park 14th" lot at 325 S. 14th St. Richmond, VA 23219. Find a "Reserved for Riverside" parking spot in our lot, check in at the front desk and we'll take care of the rest

Reviews

“My mother in law and some family friends are always looking for our next adventure. RO was the only team who worked my family in on a holiday weekend. The Lower James rafting trip was 100% worth it. It was all of our 1st time rafting. We hit the James with our guide, Arqam, aka guide of the century. We felt very safe and comfy under his direction. He was extremely patient with us. I’m tempted to go back tomorrow with some of my friends. Thanks for a great time! .”

“Took 40 people from work on a company outing. The staff, facilities, equipment, and rafting were all excellent. The guides were all top notch and added tour guide talks on historic and natural aspects of the James river as well as hitting the rapids. My group had an great time and would definitely recommend this for any group outings”
